How to play
Magic Bag
Magic Bag is a fast, fun and modern game, first introduced in 2025.
As the name suggests, the game revolves around bags, colorful bags. They’re more than just pretty: they match numbers, combine with each other, and when two bags of the same color come together, things get exciting.
Having the right bags and using them wisely is your path to victory. The game is full of surprises and almost always you have a chance of winning right up to the end.
Magic Bag is easy to learn. You will need to make decisions while playing, and doing so wise increases your chances, but it is also easy to play.
Above all, Magic Bag is fun.
Let's play a game, and see how it is to play Magic Bag.
I selected a game machine that I can play for L$10. There is also freeplay available, to learn the game for free. When being new to a game, freeplay or cheap machines are preferable. It is safe to assume that after learning the game, you will be better at it than at your first game. So, don't go all-in just yet.
At the bottom display row of the machine, we see that I will have to beat the score of 32211 in order to win 2x my buy in price. I pay L$10, so if I will win this game, I will receive L$20.
Instantly after payment, the game starts, giving you a 3x3 grid with numbers and below it a spiner row. Above the grid you see that we have a score of 0 so far, we are in round 1 and we collected 0 bonus spins.
The spiner shows:
- A red bag on column 1
- The number 20 on column 2, which is useless, as there is no 20 to match on the grid.
- The number 23 on column 3. This number we can match, there is a 23 on the grid.
Let us click the number 23 on the grid (NOT on the spinner, on the grid!!) . We will make our first match, and score our first points.
After our first match, we have 100 points. That is the score we get for matching a tile. There are only 9 tiles, so that would only sum up to 900 points when you manage to match them all.
Luckily there are other ways to score as well.
On the first column we have that red bag at the spiner. We can use that to either:
- Match a tile with another bag on the same column,
- Match a tile with a number.
The only bag on the grid is on a different number, thus I match a tile on the board. I can choose to match 3, 10 or 8.
There are two wrong choices, and one right choice. Optimizing your chance to win this game, you need 8. Choosing 3 or 10 is not such a good choice as choosing 8, where 3 is a better choice than 10. Really!
Diagonals matter a lot.
When the game will be over, it is highly likely that a lot of tiles will be matched, surely on winning games. Important are the tiles that are not
matched. We will recieve 1000 points for each matched horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Some fields, in the example here the 10, 11, 16 and 21 are on a horizontal and vertical line but not on a diagnal line.
The fields on the corners are each besides on a horizontal and vertical line also on a diagonal line. You miss out on 3000 points instead of 2000 if one remains unmatched. The field on the center is on a horizontal and vertical line and on both diagonals, so you miss out on 4000 points if it remains unmatched.
That explains why 10 would have been the worse choise. That 8 was better than 3 has to do with 13 being very likely to be choosen (if we have the chance, we''ll take the center number!) so then we have that diagonal completed. Also in situations were we don't have a lot of tiles matched near the end, we might end with 1000 points more.
Watch those diagonals, also on many other games,
and you'lll end up scoring on the average just a bit higher, transforming on the average a few lost games into wins. Make it a habit and it goes without even having to think, and you'll benefit.
Ok, that was a lot of text for a first round. But worth it, diagonals are often overlooked by people who win less than others. Yes, luck could also play a role but playing smart helps too.
Anyways, we are done with this round, a click on the spiner will bring us to the next round.
Round 2. There is something with bags going on this round!!
The green bag on the 3rd column is not red. It could still match the red bag, but ....let's have a look at the rules for matching bags:
* If you match the bag on a tile with a number, you get the same as when matching a number,100 points and that tile is matched. A bag appears.
*If you match the bag with a bag of another color, you get an amount of points between 100 and 15000.
* If you match the gag with a bag of the same color, you get also an amount of points between 100 and 15000 plus a pick in the bonus round.
Already taking the red bag with a green one makes us missing out on the chance of that pick in the bonus round. Thus, we match a number. You either choose 26, or I come to slap you on the wrist while shouting: DIAGONALS ARE IMPORTANT!
Our score went up from 300 to 700, so we got 400 points for matching the bags.
As you can see in the row above the playboard: We have 700 points, are in round 2 and have 1 bonus bag.
Bonus bags are important, they give points in the bonus round. The numbers are serious:
3000, 4000, 5000, 7500, 10000, 15000, X2, X3 or X4.
thus whatever will happen, I will receove at least 3000 points in the bonus round due to the "bonus bag"
Two bags this round. There is no match possible with bags of the same color, so I prefer 2 number matches, clearly on number 13, because D.i.a.g.o.n.a.l.s. m.a.t.t.e.r and on 21, as it is the only available number on the 3rd column.
Let's do the 13 first. We use the bag for matching 13, by clicking the 13.
The 13 also matched a line, a diagonal. Thus we will receive 1000 points for matching that line, and of course 100 for matching the tile. Our score of only 700 jumps up to 1800.
I click the 21 to match another line.
Note that the board is only 3x3 tiles so that a line is much more easy to make compared to a board of 4x4 or 5x5 tiles.
After matching the 21 we are again 1100 points richer than before. A quick view on the board learns that each number match from now on except 11, will complete at least one line. There are also 4 bags waiting for us. Our score is only 2900, but we are getting somewhere.
We click the spinner to go to the next round.
Watch the top of the machine. It says "Special bonus (points added)" and then the score, it is 1000 points higer. We got 1000 points, just like that.
You get such a bonus at least once, but sometimes more often during a game. The bonus could have also been an extra round, a free game, or a different number of points.
Anyways, always nice, extra points...what about the green bags. They can't match other green bags, so match numbers?
Yes, but!
Match the 3 and then see if that might give a green bag. If it does it can be matched with the green bag on the second column, because that has the word "Super", it is a super bag. Super bags work on the entire board, not only their own column.
Let's click 3 and see what happens.
We are another 1100 points richer, but no green bag.
So, we can use the green super bag to match every number (or a non-green bag)
If I go for a number ---> I would go for 15 or 11, reasoning that making the match on the 2nd column would increase my odds on having a completely matched board at the end of the game. That will give 4000 points.
If I go for a bag --> I take a red one. I got two of these on the same column anyways, so if I get a next round a red bag on that column, I can still match it. The other columns don't have that advantage.
The bonus round is simple:
Under each tile is a reward hidden. We have 5 picks, so we can choose 5 tiles.
These are the rewards that are possible:
3000
4000
5000
7500
10000
15000
X2
X3
X4
- There is no guarantee all different rewards will be available and some might be available under multiple tiles.
Anyways, I just click a tile and see what reward I will gain.
3000 points, aka the lowest reward possible. Grrrr.
With my 14000 points while needing a lot more than double that, I better get something good. But, there are still 4 bonus bags available.
I click another tile. As far as I know there is no way of determining which tile might be more generous. So, I just click one.
The last click is 3X..bringing or score to a whopping 117000, It could have been anything, who cares, we already won. But it is nice to end with a fat score.
One hundred and seventeen thousand… a figure whispered in legends and feared by kings. (Yup, I tried out AI too, and this is what it came with.)
Anyways....YAYYYY, We won.
Our game is over and the machine will pay us the money.
Magic Bag is not more complicated than this, play a few games to get used and you might have yourself a new favorite game.
